About Us
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Society, Inc., based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the life, work, and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Through diverse programs and events, the Society strives to inspire individuals and communities to carry forward his vision of equality, justice, and unity, fostering a better future for all.
What We Do
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Society is best known for organizing the annual Tulsa Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade, the third largest parade of its kind in the nation. This event gathers thousands of participants and spectators to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy in the historic Greenwood District. Youth engagement is a cornerstone of the organization’s work, with workshops, art, speech, and essay contests designed to educate and inspire the next generation about Dr. King’s contributions and vision.
In addition to the parade, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Society hosts an annual Commemoration Service, where music, inspiring speeches, and a student-led recitation of Dr. King’s "I Have a Dream" speech offer moments of reflection and celebration. The Walk in Peace invites the community to participate in a march reminiscent of Dr. King’s peaceful demonstrations, promoting unity and reflection.
Scholarships are awarded annually to deserving students who explore Dr. King’s legacy through their applications, furthering his dream by supporting educational opportunities. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Society also presents the Keeping the Dream Alive Award each year to recognize individuals who embody the principles of justice, love, and equality that Dr. King championed.
